Let Gateway Lead You Home…

April is finally here and your garden soil is finally warming up! April is the best time to plant most of your vegetable seeds after your last frost. It’s still not too late to plant tomatoes and peppers from seeds as well.

Here’s a list of GREAT seeds to start planting N O W !

Beans:
Start planting both bush and pole beans now that the soil and air are warmed up. Try a continual 7-10 day sowing of different varieties. This will give you continual bean crops and not one large harvest with wasted crop.
Carrots:
Planting carrots by April will give an early summer crop..
Herbs:
Plant heat loving herbs like basil, oregano, thyme and sage.
Peppers:
Fresh, crisp peppers are a garden favorite. Peppers take up little space and can produce high yields when planted close together. Plant as many different varieties as possible. They come small, big, hot, mild, and an array of different colors.
Summer Squash:
Yum! Summer squash sowing in June will lead to fresh squash and zucchini in July and August.
Tomatoes:
The most popular garden vegetable. Growing tomatoes is not only fun but treats you to some of the best tasting fruits in the world. Tomatoes come in many colors, shapes, taste, and sizes. Grow a few varieties every year to find your favorites!

Enjoy beautiful Vail weather and start planting your seeds!

 turntablerestaurant01

The Turntable Restaurant has been an iconic staple in Minturn since the town was formed.  The long time owner, Darla Goodell passed away last year and the future of the Turntable was unknown.  It was scheduled for demolition in the late 1990’s when the railroad began disposing of all of it’s structures, but a town petition helped keep it open.  The co-owners of the Westside Café in West Vail Mike Dennis and Steve Soloman along with their partner Ryan Thompson took over the restaurant and motel in September.

The establishment is keeping it’s name and are focusing on the rich history of Minturn for it’s design.  The menu is still being worked out.  The new owners hope to keep some of the classic items such as the Boo’s Burritos, green chili and the malts.  Upgrades to the restaurant include a grab-and-go, similar to what the Westside Café does, as well as an improved outdoor deck for skiers and snowboarders finishing the Minturn Mile from Vail this winter.

The new owners also intend to renovate and upgrade the motel part of the Turntable, which is about 62 rooms.  There will be a mix of nightly and short term rentals as well as seasonal and long term rentals.  Below the restaurant is the old railroad turntable, which was used to turn around locomotives and send them on their way.  Minturn’s history is so deeply rooted with the railroad system, so saving the restaurant is keeping a bit of the railroad heritage alive.  The Turntable Restaurant is scheduled to open in mid-December.

Hi & good morning,

Wednesday morning here in the Vail Valley we experienced our season’s 1st dusting of snow to blanket most if not all of the ground at least from Edwards to the East.  Of course it was short lived and only at the upper elevations is it sticking, the rest has melted.

Here are some stats as of this morning according to the Vail MLS.

SOLDS – 11 properties have sold, ranging in price from a parking spot in Vail for $100K- to $999K for a single family home in Singletree.

UNDER CONTRACT – 8 new UC properties are reported ranging from $124900- for a lot in Red Cliff to $850K up in Beaver Creek for a ski in/ski out.

PRICE REDUCTIONS – Two price reductions one for $50K the other for $19100-, worth looking at for a better deal.

NEW LISTINGS – 7 new listings range from $449K for a 3 Bdrm 3BA in Edwards to $4.3M for 360+/- Acres near Dotsero with an improvement on it.

If interested in these or any other property in the Vail Valley or surrounding area give me a call and I’ll do my best to answer your question or will find the answer if I don’t know it!

Have a good week…
