Vail has received tons of snow thus far and the skiing really has been excellent.? Look for the opening of the new Chair 5 in Sun Down Bowl on December 10th!? This will certainly change the way Vail mountain is skied.? (powder day tactics will likely be adjutsed by long term locals as they figure out the best way to ski fresh powder all day long)

Beaver Creek is all set to host the Birds of Prey World Cup races here in the Vail Valley!!? Practice and training runs have already begun, with the official races starting Friday 12/3/10 through Sunday 12/5/10.?

Lots of fun activities and events are scheduled around the races, both on the mountain and in town so be sure to attend.? Great music w/ food and drink specials will be going on at Red Tail Deck Friday & Saturday 10 am to 4 pm and on Sunday 9 am to 2:30 pm.? The races are of course FREE and open to the public!? If you’ve never checked out a World Cup ski event,? come by as they are not to be missed!
And by the way, if ski racing is not your thing Vail is opening Blus Sky Basin this Friday as well! Vail Mountain has received 100 inches of snow this year,?7 weeks earlier than last year!? Vail will have 4308 acres of skiable terrain open this weekend with 17 lifts open.?
Wolcott is one of the last large parcels on the valley floor yet to be developed here in the Vail Valley.?? And local developer Community Concepts Colorado has now released plans to the public and to the county on what they hope to do with this great opportunity.
Having previously seen this plan, it really is exciting to see the focus of the project on the natural surroundings, especially the Eagle River.? Re-aligning Highway 6 to run closer to I-70 is critical, as this opens up acres of river frontage and allows for easy pedestrian and bike access throughout the community.? 65% of the 1100 acres are slated to remain open space.? Solar powered golf carts and people movers are envisioned to make less of an environmental impact.? Community spaces and amenities are highlighted in some of the best locations within the parcel, not as an after thought.
In keeping with the county’s Wolcott master plan, the developer intends to have a balance of residential units, with entry level and higher end properties.? There will also be a good blend of retail and professional spaces, as well as a dedicated “restaurant row” that overlooks the community park and the Eagle River.
Members of the neighboring? Bellyache and Red Sky Ranch?communities are excited to have some commercial development closer to home.? Especially one that favors neighborhood over sprawl and big boxes.? This development is in its very early stages and the developer is in no rush.?
