Vail snow daze

Vail Snow Daze, North America’s “largest early-season mountain bash”, is returning to Vail this December 12th. With incredible apres ski parties and a wonderful concert lineup, Vail is the place to be in December!

The 2015 World Championships aren’t just about the skiing and racing (although that is the highlight!); Vail Resorts also sponsors many other social events including a great concert line-up.

The Town of Vail has a count-down clock by the Covered Bridge that gives an accurate day, hour, & minute count-down to the races.  2015 World Championships are building up to be an epic event in Vail!

The Vail Valley hosts weekly farmer’s markets in three different locations throughout the summer. Edwards, Vail, and Minturn each put on a great market every weekend from June through September/October. Make a day of shopping, music, art, food and more! Vendors bring the freshest Colorado-grown produce and local restaurants also have booths to offer some of the valley’s greatest food and drinks. In addition, jewelers, artists, and clothing vendors from all over Colorado offer great shopping opportunities.

The markets are a great family activity or an excellent way to spend a few hours enjoying the outdoors. Also, be sure to bring your pooch; the markets are pet friendly and there are even some dog treat vendors to cater to them.

The Edwards market is the best if you’re looking for a smaller, less crowded option. The main focus of this market is farm and food products. It is located in Edwards Corner and parking is easy and convenient. edwards farmers market

 

 

 

 

 

The Minturn Market is larger and is located in the small community of Minturn. Parking slightly more difficult for this market, but there are directions to two different lots on the website. The market hosts over 100 vendors throughout the summer as well as live music.

The largest Vail Valley Market is the Vail Farmer’s Market and Art Show. This market stretches throughout most of the village. Park in the Village parking structure, or if that’s full in the Lionshead parking structure. Not only does the Vail Market offer great food and shopping, but you can also enjoy local creativity at several art booths.vail farmers market

 

The Vail Valley is the home of some of the world’s best hiking.

Booth Falls/Booth Lake

One great trail is Booth Falls, located just a few miles from Vail Village in East Vail. This 4.2 mile hike leads to a gorgeous 60-foot waterfall and offers excellent mountain views. An additional 2 miles past the falls lies Booth Lake. This hike is a bit strenuous because of the elevation gain, but there are plenty of opportunities to stop and rest while taking in the scenery. It is best to get an early start, especially on weekends, as the trail can get busy by midday.

Shrine Pass

Another great trail is up on Shrine Pass, on top of Vail Pass. This hike is great if you’re looking for wildflowers, which have been especially beautiful this year! Also, enjoy great views of Mount of the Holy Cross as you hike. If you follow the trail for 12 miles, you will end up in Redcliff, a remote and historic mountain town. Be sure that you go later in the summer season if you hope to reach Redcliff, however, as snow lingers and may make it impossible to venture far enough.

Hanging Lake

One of the most popular hikes near the Valley is Hanging Lake. This trail is located about 60 miles west of Vail. The hike itself is only about 2.4 miles round trip and leads up to a small lake with spectacularly clear water and amazing canyon views. One drawback to this hike is that it is often very crowded. Be sure to get an early start and if possible, go on a weekday.

Despite the crowds and the hour drive, the end result is well worth it. Once you have enjoyed the lake for a while, continue up a few minutes more to Spouting Rock where a small waterfall comes out of a hole in the canyon wall. From here, you can look down on the lake and enjoy a picnic lunch if you choose.

Beaver Lake

This trail is located up in Beaver Creek and starts at the right of the main Beaver Creek chairlift, Centennial Express. It’s a 3 mile, moderate climb up to the lake. The lake has some great fishing and small “beaches”, perfect for a picnic lunch. Hikers often spot beavers, deer, and other wildlife so be sure to bring a camera! This hike is generally accessible from May through October.
