River Ranch at Arrowhead

Where can you find a spectacular home overlooking the Eagle River that has dial-a-ride ski mountain access that gets you to the base within minutes.? This rare combination can be found at 267 Eagle River Road in Arrowhead at Vail. This 6,205 square foot stunner is nestled along a Gold Medal, trout laden stretch of the Eagle River with breathtaking river views from almost every room.

As you enter the home you see massive windows flanking the floor to ceiling stone fireplace of the great room while the nearby gourmet kitchen opens to a cozy hearth room. The main level master suite is gorgeous with over the top spa bath. Upstairs two huge bedroom suites open to a sunny loft while the lower level offers a large recreation room with stone fireplace, expansive wet bar,  private wine tasting room and three additional bedroom suites. An expansive stone patio with fire pit overlooks the river providing a gorgeous private setting.

Relaxed, friendly, warm, creative, unique, rustic, sophisticated, fun and, most of all, down-right delicious. Do your heart and soul a favor next time you are in Vail Village and reserve a table at Mountain Standard Restaurant.

Much of the menu at Mountain Standard is prepared using the oldest, most primal cooking method there is: open wood fire, which makes the food and the atmosphere seem particularly inviting in the wintertime; the restaurant’s setting alongside Gore Creek, and the floor-to-ceiling windows which can open wide to invite nature inside, are magical in the summer.

Beer lovers will rejoice in the selection of gourmet craft beers; the wine selection is superb, and the Mountain Standard Bloody Mary is second to none (the secret is the propriety Bloody Mary mix made with–you guessed it– fire-roasted tomato puree).mtnstdbeer

What menu items do I recommend? Well, it’s hard to narrow it down, and especially hard to get past the amazing appetizer assortment, including a raw seafood bar; it would be easy and tempting to make a tapas feast from those items alone (which we have done!).Mountain Standard

Just some of my favorites:
–Coal roasted olives with pine nuts and raisins
–Wood fired mushrooms with gruyere fondue
–Three Little Pigs (Jamon Iberia, Serrano Ham and Prosciutto)
–Shrimp and Grits
–Bone Marrow
–Colorado Leg of Lamb Salad

Absolutely not to be missed–drum roll–is the Southern Pimento Cheese. “Really?!?”, you say? Even if you’re not from the South and think you don’t like pimento cheese, you will love this version, with bacon and cider jam, pickled celery and grilled toast points. My mouth is watering just writing this.

To top it all off, the owners and managers of the Mountain Standard have a talent for creating a wonderful ‘esprit de corps’ among the staff (I happen to know several of them), which translates into a happy atmosphere and dedicated service for the customer.  Add a six-pack for the kitchen to your tip and you will hear them cheer for you.

So, make a reservation and go for it!

Vail Village will be the hub of event festivities during the upcoming International Alpine Ski Championships to be held in Vail and Beaver Creek February 2 – 15. Our Gateway Real Estate – Vail offices will be in the middle of the action. (Race Course Map)

Championships Plaza, in front of Solaris, will be the site of opening ceremonies, closing ceremonies, medal presentations, and open-air concerts. Don’t be surprised if you spot ski legends. If you see the GoPro truck, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to get autographs from a few.

Down the street, next to the International Bridge (and near our Gateway Vail offices), Winter Beer Camp will open every day at 4:00pm. Set in a beer hall tent, Beer Camp (hosted by Sierra Nevada Beer) will feature a rotating selection of craft beers, instructional beer tastings, and food and beverage selections from a variety of vendors such as Big Bear Bistro, Audi’s Bistro, Goslings Rum Bar, the Korbel Bar, and Marley’s Coffee. Sierra Nevada will be introducing its new brew, The Start House Ale, the official beer of the 2015 International Ski Championships.

Later in the evening, you may want to wonder over to Bridge Street to experience the event’s official night club, Samana. Or, head to the Sonnenalp Resort, where you can listen to live music in the comfort of the King’s Club, or celebrate with the German Ski Team at “German House”, offering drinks, a 3-course dinner and entertainment.

Wherever your plans take you, please stop in to the Gateway Real Estate offices in Vail, next to the International Bridge, to say “hi”, have some refreshments or just warm up! We’ll be there from 9 AM until 8 PM daily.

Vail Valley hiking and biking trails

Lake Creek in the Vail Valley is without a doubt one of the most spectacular and private areas in all of Eagle County. Minutes to restaurants and shopping in colorful Edwards yet seemingly light years from noise or bustle, Lake Creek has become one of the most sought after addresses in Colorado!

The Hoffman family, which is based in Chicago, has owned property in Beaver Creek and Bachelor Gulch for a long time but in 2013 purchased a large amount of the old commercial core in the Town of Avon.  The Hoffman family has put a great deal of time, effort and money into their holdings.  A number of new sculptures have been added around the commercial area, and buildings have been renovated. A new restaurant “Boxcar” has been added and the “Christy Sports” building  has received extensive upgrades.

The Phoenix Theater has leased the old Outback Steakhouse restaurant space in Chapel Square and has plans to build a two or three screen theater.  The theater will be similar to the CineBistro at Vail’s Solaris.  The theater is planning to be open by April or May of this year.

Avon has become a lot more pedestrian friendly.  The company has recently made an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad for a new walkway that will cross the tracks between buildings holding Boxcar and Christy Sports and Burger King, Starbucks and Avon Bakery.
