When I get asked about Vail and things too do, I naturally pick things in East Vail because that is my neighborhood. Of the many things East Vail has to offer, it’s hiking trails are legendary. With many waterfalls, there are several trails that are easy enough for most people to enjoy. One of my favorite trails is the Deluge Lake Trail, which can be found at the end of Bighorn Road off the Vail Pass path. For many in this part of East Vail, you can walk out your front door and be to the trail entrance via a few minute walk. The hike is a 9 mile round trip that will take you deep into the classic Colorado Rockies. Starting through beautiful meadows filled with wildflowers, the hike ends at Deluge Lake which is surrounded by rocky peaks. This is not an easy hike. If you just get to Vail, give yourself a day or so to acclimate to the altitude before taking this on.
