Let Gateway Lead You Home…

In the Summer and Fall we have the opportunity to enjoy local Farmers Markets in Eagle County.  The Vail Valley has three markets to choose from of which everyone should go during their visit to Vail.  The summer starts off slow with early crops, like rhubarb and romaine lettuce in June, with apricots, beets and broccoli in early July, but the real summer gems arrive in mid-July with peaches, sweet corn, cucumbers and heirloom tomatoes.

The Vail Farmer’s Market and Art Show, takes place on Sundays, June 19th through October 2nd, 2016 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Take a stroll down Meadow Drive where the market has grown to 135 tents.  There is a tremendous variety of vendors and is the largest market in the county as well as the state.  Along with produce, shoppers will find plenty of local artist, jewelry makers and plenty of entertainment.

If take your children to the Vail Farmer’s Market, pack a change of clothes and towels for your kids.  Children love the Children’s Fountain, with spurts of water shooting sky high creating water art and taunting your kids to jump in and get squirted.  As your family walks by Gore Creek, the allure of the refreshing water with swirling patterns will mesmerize your children to play in the water.  Even though the air is warm, Gore Creek is extremely cold as it is snow melt.  Wet clothes in the mountains turns your kids into icicles.

The Minturn Market is the county’s oldest farmer’s market and has it’s own unique charm.  The market is delayed this year due to a street improvement project.  The market is on Saturdays and will start July 2nd through September 3rd, 2016 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  The Minturn Market features an assortment of items from farm fresh and organic produce to great breakfast and lunch items to gourmet foods, gifts, clothing, jewelry and hand made crafts and more.

The Edwards Market is the best if you are looking for a small, less crowded option.  The main focus of this market is high quality farm and gourmet food products.  Gourmet food vendors arrive early in the morning with freshly made specialties and freshly picked fruits and vegetables along with Colorado lamb, beef, pork, eggs, honey and cheese.  Local bakeries sell freshly baked breads, pastries and pies.   Located in the Edwards Corner where parking is easy and convenient.  The market is on Saturdays, June 18th through September 17th, 2016 from 9:30-1:30.

The markets are a great family activity or an excellent way to spend a few hours enjoying the outdoors. Make a day of shopping, music, food and more.  The markets are pet friendly too!
