With snow piling up on our roadways; and more snow on it’s way… Vail re-enforces snowplow regulations.

Living in a quaint mountain town you may see many residents with plow trucks in their drive ways, if you’re lucky you might just have a nearby friend to help plow your driveway.

Here are some tips and rules that will help you organize your heaps of snow :)

By town ordinance in Vail, property owners and residences are responsible for maintaining their drive ways and side walks following a snow storm.  For pedestrian safety the town of Vail does not permit on the shoulder or on street parking. The town of Vail has a no tolerance attitude and automobiles parked illegally will be ticketed or even towed.
Please be cautious when driving on streets that have snow pilled high on the street corners; it may be difficult to see on coming traffic. Be careful!

Other ideas include, being mindful of snow loads on roofs, keeping fire hydrants clear of snow and making sure kids’ snow caves are built a safe distance from the road.

Be careful out there!  And for more information on Town of Vail happenings stop in and visit me at our Vail Village location! Located near the international bridge on Gore Creek Drive!

Image result for vails northwoods express lift

Northwoods Express is a legendary lift on the front side of Vail Mountain, serving moderate and advanced terrain for wild riders. The new lift will reduce wait times and increase capacity by 25%! The increase will also improve the flow of skiers and snowboarders to Vail’s epic Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin throughout the day, as well as create a better flow of traffic exiting Blue Sky Basin and moving across the mountain at the end of the day.

If you ride as often as I do on Vail’s awesome mountain you can understand my utter excitement for this addition! I feel like this expansion will create more space for riders; as there is more access to terrain via the Northwoods lift #11!

Check out this awesome quote from Doug Lovell – chief operating officer here at Vail Mountain… “The replacement of Northwoods will impact a key area of the mountain, especially at the end of the day, as guests are leaving Blue Sky Basin and making their way west,” said Lovell. “Every time we upgrade a lift at Vail, we are enhancing the guest experience on the mountain, and that experience has been completely transformed since 2007. We are allowing guests more time to explore the terrain and less time waiting in line or riding a chairlift.”

This six-passenger lift to debut during the 2017-2018 winter season. The new lift marks the 10th lift replacement in the last 11 years at Vail.

A Horse’s Tale

There are numerous books, which either include Vail or which are exclusively about Vail.  Most of these are very upbeat, beautifully photographed and explore the glamorous side of one of the world’s great ski resorts.

There are also countless stories and events which, for various reasons, have generally not been included in books.  These stories could be termed (with a nod to Paul Harvey) the rest of the story.  Among such tales is one, which has been retold so many times it has, undoubtedly, been enhanced.

As the story goes, there was a bar located in Vail Village on the southwest corner of Gore Creek Drive and Bridge Street and it was run by a well-known local resident.  One of the frequent patrons was an equally well-known individual who had a strong, larger-than-life personality.  The patron, it is said, would frequently ride a horse into the bar, which often resulted in the horse leaving a “calling card” on the floor.  The owner, in an attempt to put a halt to this occurrence – without totally alienating a good patron – announced that if the horse ever again left a “calling card”, the horse and owner would both be “86ed” from the bar for the season.

Shortly thereafter the patron rode his horse into the bar and the owner immediately began to evict them both.  The patron argued that the horse had not made a mess.  The owner relented, and the patron ordered a beer.   Shortly, however, the horse’s tail rose and everyone held their breath.   Before the horse could finish it’s business the patron grabbed a cowboy hat from a visitor sitting at the bar and caught the horse’s attempt to have them thrown out.  The hat was then handed back to the visitor and the beer drinking retuned, for the time-being, to normal.
