The 2010 Korbel American Ski Classic starts today with the Conway Cup scheduled for 1 p.m.?? The Conway Cup is named?in memory of Dan Conway who served as Director?of Racing for Vail and Vail Resorts.? The Conway Cup will feature 40 four-member teams of local racers with one team earning the right to advance to a spot in the Korbel Ford Cup celebrity team competition on Friday and Saturday.? The 2010 Korbel American Ski Classic races will also include the Volvo Legends Giant Slalom tomorrow.?
This year’s field of Legends is stacked.? 34 men and women have accounted for a total of 22 Olympic medals, 41 World Championship medals, 248 individual World Cup wins, 8 World Cup overall crowns and 20 World Cup discipline titles.? The Korbel Ford Cup features head to head competition with teams captained by some of the greatest names in ski racing history and comprised of celebrites, sponsors and paid participants.? Some of the sports celebrities slated to participate are former Major League Baseball stars Scott Erickson and Robin Yount, former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien and running back Joe Washington.? Summer and Winter Olympians slated to participate are gymnast Trent Dimas, track and field star Carol Lewis-Zilli, speed skater Eric Flaim and figure skater Paul Wylie.? The Entertainment celebrities included in the field are actors Grant Show, Alfonso Ribeiro, Patrick Warburton and Joe Pantaliano, along with Robert Kennedy Jr.
The 2010 Korbel Ford Cup competitions will get underway on Friday as 40 five-person teams go head to head in an effort to qualify for the bracket rounds on Saturday.? A total of eight teams will compete in the finals with only one team being victorious.?
