As the first light of Easter morning illuminates Vail Mountain, hundreds gather at Eagle’s Nest to partake in the Sunrise Easter Service. Despite the cold and darkness, the tradition endures, drawing a dedicated crowd even as early as 6 a.m.
For decades, this service was a cherished part of Eagle County life until the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation, along with many other events. However, last year saw its triumphant return, much to the surprise and joy of Reverend Ethan Moore, the recently retired lead pastor of Trinity Church.
Thankfully, the support from Vail Resorts executives and town of Vail officials proved unwavering, ensuring the service’s continuation. Parking is available free of charge at the Lionshead parking structure, with Vail Resorts opening the Lionshead Gondola at 6 a.m. to facilitate access for attendees. The service itself is scheduled to begin at 6:30.
