Looking for a fun time camping or fishing in the Vail Valley?? Then check out Piney Lake, located about 11 miles from Vail via Red Sandstone Road in West Vail.? The backdrop of the Gore Range is truly one of Vail’s best vistas anywhere! The Gore Range above Piney Lake

The fly fishing up here is great fun; there are?even canoes for rent if you want to access more of the lake.? Fish from the shore, or target the inlet or outlet of Piney and you’ll be rewarded with browns, rainbows and brookies.? (they may not be huge, but are exciting?and can be a real challenge to catch)
The forest service is trying to repair several areas that have been overcamped, so please observe closures.? They are also dealing with harvesting many of the dead pine trees, as this area, like the rest of the Rocky Mountain pine forests, has?been hit by the pine beetle.?
There is a commercial operator at Piney Lake; Piney River Ranch that offers teepees and cabins for rent.? They also have horse back tours and ?can cater special events including weddings (I’ve been to several up?here and it is an amazing setting for a Colorado wedding!!).Fun for the whole family!

Camping at Piney is a great way to get the little?ones interested in the outdoors.? Hike, camp, explore & fish!? Sounds good to me.? It’s an easy day trip from Vail and the more adventurous can even hike to Upper Piney Lake.? (no amenities up there so be prepared!)
Visit Piney Lake and you’ll be rewarded with stunning views and a?glimpse into the Colorado backcountry (even if you can drive there.)?Sunset On The Gore Range
