It was heartbreaking to many of us when the restaurants in the Vail Valley closed their doors to diners. It was heartbreaking, but a necessary step to help flatten the curve of the COVID-19 coronavirus that is sweeping over our world. The Valley’s dining experiences are part of the reason so many people visit this town, and why so many locals love living here. The closures are already having a negative economic effect but there are some great ways you can help today!
Order Take-Out
Ordering take-out is probably the easiest way to support your favorite restaurants – many of which are offering this service for the first time ever. Hovey and Harrison has just started offering a small selection of pre-made meals, essentials and alcohol in attempt to offer a small ease during this difficult time. From Turkey Pot Pies to a selection of their delicious cookies, it is an easy way to support them over the next few weeks.
Buy a Gift Card
When you purchase a gift card it helps your favorite restaurants immediately and when this is over and we can enjoy dining out again you have a planned night out on the town! Mountain Standard, one of our favorites in the Village, offers easy gift card purchases on their site.
Donate to a Staff Fund
Many restaurants around the country have started GoFundMe pages for their workers as they have been forced to let them go since the shutdown. We love Northside Kitchen and its sister restaurants, Pavalici’s Pizza and Benderz Burgers, and since the closure has temporarily laid off 104 of its workers they have set up a GoFundMe page where you can help support them with their housing costs.
Now more than ever it is important we support each other and our community. Although we may not be able to see the faces of the people we help, there is sure to be a smile at the other end of one of these purchases or gifts. We will not only survive through this but we will thrive together as a Valley again very soon!
