The Winter Edit

Winter in Vail is among the most beautiful, with world class ski resorts and apres fun. Vail was made for outdoor activities. From skiing Beaver Creek or Vail to shopping some of the most iconic stores, Vail has something to offer everyone.

EAT | Matsuhisa

Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s second Colorado location opened in 2011 in the heart of Vail Village. Located in the 5-Star Solaris development, Matsuhisa Vail is a rustic urban setting complete with a stone fireplace, outdoor fire pits, large indigenous stone pillars and walls, and custom woodwork. Floor to ceiling windows reveal a panoramic view of Vail Mountain.

SHOP | Gorsuch Vail Village

The first store was an abandoned service station in Gunnison, Colorado, a place so frigid in winter you can hardly window shop. They carried Bogner, Kästle, Head, Marker and Nordica. That’s what David & Renie raced on, and they wanted to offer their customers the best. The Vail flagship store opened in 1966 and continues to be a favorite among locals and tourists. Stop by the Ski Cafe and enjoy a coffee before hitting the slopes.

DRINK | Stoke & Rye

If you’re skiing in Beaver Creek, head down the mountain to Stoke & Rye. Let chef Richard Sandoval revive you after an exhilarating day on the slopes with innovative New American dishes located inside The Westin Riverfront. A few of his masterpieces: smoked oysters with pine, lemon-bourbon aioli, trout caviar and wood chip mignonette, a 52-ounce tomahawk flamed tableside with moonshine whiskey, and the Sakura pork loin, served with applewood bacon, barigoule artichoke purée and apricot-almond sauce. Culinary creations aside, another big draw at Stoke & Rye is its extensive whiskey list, which features more than 160 pours from around the world.

EXPERIENCE | Sleigh Ride Dinner at Beano’s Cabin

A crown jewel tucked into an on-mountain meadow at the base of Larkspur Bowl, this luxurious log hideaway is one of Colorado’s top restaurants. Start your evening with a sleigh ride up through Beaver Creek’s iconic aspen groves to an exquisite gourmet dinner. Here, you’ll be treated to a true feast for the senses with our open kitchen where guests can watch our chefs in action as they prepare five-course meals comprised of traditional Colorado fare. It’s the most delicious way to end a perfect day on the mountain.

The modest lodge established 40 years ago led to the hotel and resort that rests at the heart of Vail Valley today — a renowned, destination intertwined in the fabric of an iconic community. The welcoming spirit cultivated by a history of family ownership and management that makes staying at the Sonnenalp an unforgettable resort experience.
